Day #5435 – (Fri., Nov. 22, 2024) – Ordering Tires!

My wife had a 11:15 am appointment at Costco to put tires on the van this morning, but she had a meeting, so I went. As it turns out, they don’t have any tires in stock, but need to order them, and the only ones they have are on backorder so it will take 3+ weeks to get them. Not only that, you need to pay up front before you get them, so I left…

We looked around and Fountain Tire, which is next to the recycling depot, has a much better option. I drove the van there and they said that they have Toyo Celcius II “all weather” tires in their warehouse.

The total cost will be $1,152.03, with installation, and future tire rotations, and you don’t need to pay till they install them and are ready to go. Not a bad deal! Costco’s were not that much cheaper. I also ordered Salun Atrezzo “4 Seasons”, which does not equate to an all-season tire, as confusing as it may seem… All-season is really a 3-season tire as you need “All Weather” tires to deal with the snow in the Courtenay area. So, these “4 Season” tires are “All Weather”… A bit cheaper at $820.51…

I picked up Bobby at Huband today, and then Katie at Vanier. As an interesting side note the school buses here in Courtenay look exactly the same as they do in Chapel Hill (see photo to the left). I guess that the “orange” color is the worldwide color for school buses.

Katie and I went out for a drive after I picked her up, effectively a Daddy/Daughter Chat Day. We ended up at McDonalds where I learned they do have a “2 Cheeseburger Combo”, it’s just not on their drive up menu like it is in the US. Bobby will be happy to hear this, as it was his favorite option. Katie was a bit happier today than most days as she told me that she’s realizing to be happy she needs to put for a bit more effort. This happiness seemed to diminish some as we drove around the rainy streets of Courtenay & Comox…

We heard from Ethan’s mom and she is indeed getting a VR headset for Ethan this Christmas. The options for Bobby are go kart, mini bike, or a VR headset. I think he’s leaning more to wanting and getting a VR headset as much as I don’t like the idea of more “online stuff” for him. He will probably use this more in the rainy & snowy winter of Courtenay at any rate.
