Day #5464 – (Sat., Dec. 21, 2024) – Daisy’s Christmas Concert

Daisy had a Christmas concert for all her viola and violin students today at the Big Yellow Merville Hall up the Island Highway this afternoon (see photo to the right). It started at noon and was over in about an hour. Based upon the length of the program we thought it would be much longer, but the kids only played little snippets of some songs. You can see Katie’s full solo here, and Bobby’s full solo here.

Maureen, the lady who owned our house before we purchased it, came to see the kids. She has expressed an interest in hearing them play in the past, and left her 101 year old mother at home to come and hear them play.

When we got home the kids dove into the Advent Calendars. As per yesterday’s post, I packaged up a couple of Landmark Cinemas gift cards into an envelope for Katie, and a number of packages wrapped in duct tape for Bobby. The kids have been saying that their gifts on a particular day come in the same package shapes, but they sure didn’t today!

There is still a bit of drama about Bobby’s online play time, so I took him for a drive to talk about it. Effectively a Daddy/Son Chat Day. For starters I took him to Codes Country Lanes, a bowling alley, in downtown Courtenay. A little tidbit of history, it is the oldest bowling alley in the whole province of British Columbia. I wanted to see if it was still open, and some potential parking places. I want to take Bobby for a Daddy/Son Day on Tuesday, as it will be closed tomorrow and Monday.

Next up was McDonalds for a Grinch Happy Meal. Bobby wanted two Happy Meals but I told him to try one and then if she was still hungry we would go back and get another. He wanted a large fries, so I used one of the “free” coupons for small fries. Problem solved. He also wanted a large banana smoothie, so I got one of those for him as well.

According to Bobby, the problem with keeping his online time down, the problem is that he gets so involved with the games he loses track of time. Katie offered to set his iPad up with a timer so that when it goes off after an hour and half Bobby can set up a 30 minute timer on Alexa. So 1.5 + 0.5 = 2 hours. Problem solved? We’ll see…
